Data Protection Act. Legislation from the United Kingdom (and European Union) regulating how data should be handled by organisations. |

Human Computer Interaction. The study of how people use computers, typically using research to assist in the design of more usable interfaces. |

HyperText Transfer Protocol. The commands sent from your web browser to the web server to request a page. |
| IA |
Information Architecture. The process of structuring information into logical categories to ensure it is as simple as possible to access. |
| IxD |
Interaction Design. The process a usability professional goes through in order to determine how something should work; what should happen when you click a button; the feedback you receive on submitting a web form etc. |

User eXperience. This is a broad term describing the experience a person has in the use of a web site, software or real-life item (e.g. a TV). |

Website Compliance Test. A fixed focus series of heuristics based tests to be performed on a website. Includes aspects such as UX, IxD, IA, DPA, DDA and good use of architecture. |
