Term Definition
Accessibility

A measure of the ease of access to everyone, including those with a variety of disabilities. This may be the use of adaptive technology to speak a website or a text web browser being used to output to a braille keyboard.

DDA

Disability Discrimination Act. Legislation from the United Kingdom (and European Union) setting out requirements organisations must follow in order to aid accessibility.

DPA

Data Protection Act. Legislation from the United Kingdom (and European Union) regulating how data should be handled by organisations.

HCI

Human Computer Interaction. The study of how people use computers, typically using research to assist in the design of more usable interfaces.

HyperText Transfer Protocol. The commands sent from your web browser to the web server to request a page.

IA

Information Architecture. The process of structuring information into logical categories to ensure it is as simple as possible to access.

IxD

Interaction Design. The process a usability professional goes through in order to determine how something should work; what should happen when you click a button; the feedback you receive on submitting a web form etc.

A first-look fixed scope heuristics based evaluation of a website comprising video of the website and spoken audio by the evaluator along with a short written report to highlight the key points.

UX

User eXperience. This is a broad term describing the experience a person has in the use of a web site, software or real-life item (e.g. a TV).

WCT

Website Compliance Test. A fixed focus series of heuristics based tests to be performed on a website. Includes aspects such as UX, IxD, IA, DPA, DDA and good use of architecture.
